How to configure a position

Two ways to select a position:

  • SP number — each of the 960 Chess-960 positions has a unique number (1–960). Type it to load that position.
  • Position code — type the 8-letter back-rank arrangement from a to h (e.g. NRKBQRNB). The board updates as you type.

SP 386 is RNBQKBNR, the classical chess setup.

How to read the result

Evaluation in centipawns (cp): 100 cp = one pawn.

  • +200 cp or more — decisive White advantage
  • +30 to +200 cp — White has an edge
  • ±30 cp — balanced position
  • −30 to −200 cp — Black has an edge
  • −200 cp or less — decisive Black advantage
